War Stuff

So far, the pencil art I've posted from Two Generals would make you think that the book is mostly about sightseeing and golf. And there's an extent to which it is about those things, especially in the first half.

This week, though, I finally arrived at a scene that has guns, helmets, equipment, men yelling at each other, etc. You know, war stuff. The scene depicted here is a training exercise rather than the real thing, but that hasn't stopped one poor officer from shooting himself in the leg. As always, you can click these for larger versions:

This scene has taken some time, thanks to the number of characters and amount of historical detail. But it's the tip of the iceberg, really. It's pretty much just practice for my Juno Beach scene, which is coming up in about another thirty pages.

Upcoming Signings

Just a quick heads-up about two public appearances in the weeks ahead:

First, I'll be signing Saturday, September 19th from 11am-4pm (or so) at the grand re-opening of The Dragon in Quelph, Ontario, along with Stuart and Kathryn Immonen, Jay Stephens, Dale Keown, Lar DeSouza, and Nick Postic. As usual, I'll be sigining and sketching, and will have some original art for sale, too. The Dragon is a terrific little shop owned by the lovely and talented Jenn Stewart, so come out and say hello. It's going to be a good time.

Then, on the 27th, I'll be appearing at the Word on the Street festival in Kitchener, Ontario. My schedule for the festival is as follows:

At noon , I'll be doing a reading from the script of Northwest Passage in the Adult tent. I'll have the LAST 30 UNSOLD COPIES of the book for sale (a reprint is expected early next year), and will also be signing and answering audience questions, etc.

And from 1pm to 1:30pm, I'll be back in the Comics & Graphic Novels Tent for the panel "Diverse Comics for Diverse Tastes" with Svetlana Chmakova.

And when I'm not doing any of those other things, I'll be signing and sketching in the Comics and Graphic Novels Tent, or else just wandering around the festival looking at all the great stuff. Hope to see you there!

"Two Generals" Golf Montage

Because I'm a firm believer that there's no comic that can't be improved by some dudes golfing in kilts:

"Tower of Treasure" Gets a Polish

I spent part of the long weekend doing some final art revisions on the first of the Three Thieves books, Tower of Treasure. Small tweaks, colour changes, things like that. It's putting on its Sunday clothes, getting gussied up for its first date, etc.

It's hard to believe that it's still a year until it hits shelves, but putting the books out once a year means a pretty long lead time. And trust me, it'll be worth the wait!

In the meantime, here's another couple of colour panels, just for fun!
