"Two Generals" Pencils Underway

With the latest round of script and layout changes for Two Generals having been recently approved by the folks at McClelland & Stewart, I'm finally free to draw the rest of the book (a small handful of pages had been pencilled back when the project was at Tundra Books, most of which I've been able to reuse, with some tweaks). I got started last week, and am quite pleased with how things are going so far.

I've posted a few panels that I like, and which really capture the spirit of the early part of the book. So, enjoy this brief preview...(much) more to come!

"Three Thieves" Book 2 Script Finished

Late last week, I turned in the script for the second book in the Three Thieves series, tentatively titled The Sign of the Black Rock. With the release of Book 1 still just over a year away, I don't expect anyone other than myself to be too excited at this news, but nonetheless it feels good to be making progress, to be on a roll.

I'm also very pleased with the script itself, which definitely ups the ante on Book 1 for plot twists. The hardest part of writing for me is plotting. Structuring a story dramatically and writing dialogue are the fun parts, for me, but deciding what actually happens really makes me sweat. This new script probably has the most intricate plot of anything I've written to date, though, which I'm proud of.

Next big thing on my to-do list is pencilling Two Generals, which I've finally gotten started on this week. I expect I'll start posting panels and pages that I like very soon.

R.I.P. Nickelodeon Magazine

It's just my luck that when I finally crack one of the best illustration markets in North America, it goes out of business. But that's unfortunately what's happened to Nickelodeon Magazine, which since 1992 has been showcasing some of the best cartoonists and illustrators around. I got in there at pretty much the last minute before it shut its doors, the latest victim of the downturn in newspaper and magazine publishing.

The illustrations below appear in the "No-Way Novelties" section of this month's issue, which will, sadly, be the last. I'm just happy to have had the opportunity to contribute to such an institution while it lasted.

Thanks, Nickelodeon, for 17 years of great cartooning!
