A few years back, though, my buddy and former collaborator J. Torres began working together on a pitch for DC reviving the Golden Age character The Crimson Avenger. They didn't bite--in fact, once J. told them the concept, they immediately told us, "no revamps of classic characters, no 'cartoony' art." So that was about that. But I still like these sketches that I did of the character, both in costume and out, and came across them recently while digging through some old files. So here they are, a brief glimpse of what might have been if DC Comics wasn't so rabidly anti-cartooning.

Y'know, I like a lot of the folks working at DC, and they do a lot of things right, but...
Between this and passing on the Bone/Cooke Wonder Woman project...
I f*%^cking hate DC.
Beautiful sketches, Scott.
Yeah, I was pretty cheesed when I learned about the Bone/Cooke WONDER WOMAN.
And for the sake of your sanity, I won't tell you about the OTHER project of mine that DC passed on. But it would have been damn good...
Seeing these, and the fact that you've never been given a shot at doing even a short Spirit story is criminal in and of itself... but this would have been GREAT (and this would have been a great superhero dovetail from the period stuff of Scandalous and Days Like This). Damn shame...
It does make SOME sense, though, DC had to make sure they had room on the docket for some great Rob Liefeld books...
*sigh*
